First and Second Place at the Berlin Photo Awards 2026

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve won both First and Second Place in the Family Photography category at the Berlin Photo Awards 2026, an international competition that this year received thousands of entries from photographers around the world.

First Place went to Under the Oak, a silhouette of a family beneath an ancient oak tree, photographed against an overcast sky.

I love how the scale of the trees frames the family as they hold hands beneath the branches. I used a silhouette here to create a sense of the wonder of childhood as well as it being an image about this particular family. I’ve always loved silhouettes since reading Jan Pienkowski’s beautiful books as a child – there’s a sense of mystery and magic that draws me in and which I love to echo in my photographs.

Second Place went to Running Free, a shot of two children mid-sprint through a wood, photographed with a slow shutter speed to blur the trees around them while keeping their laughing faces sharp.

Capturing genuine, unposed joy like this is exactly what I try to create in every family session. I’m always drawn to movement and mayhem – the delightful chaos of family life. I like to incorporate this to create interesting and unique images that reflect the personalities of the children I photograph in beautiful images that will truly stand the test of time

Both prints were on display as part of the Berlin Photo Awards 2026 Winners Exhibition, held from 14–16 August 2026 at ERSTERERSTER Gallery, Pappelallee 69, 10437 Berlin, alongside work from photographers around the world.

The photographs were shot on location during family photo shoots here in London, and I’m honoured that the Berlin Photo Awards jury recognised them among so many outstanding entries this year.
