I was thrilled to be booked for a mornings baby photography in Finsbury Park recently. It is always lovely to work close to home and Finsbury Park is such a great spot for family and baby photos.
This session had been purchased as a gift voucher, and it is always special when someone chooses to give a photo shoot along with prints to a loved one. It is a gift that lasts for years, something to be treasured not only by the parents but also by the little one as they grow. These photographs become part of a family story, something that may one day be shared with future generations.
The best time to photograph little ones
When the family received the gift voucher, we talked about the best time to plan their baby photography session. We chose to wait until their little one could lift his head while lying on his tummy. This stage is full of expression and personality, which makes it such a joyful time for baby photography.
It was definitely the right decision as this smiling little man was so photogenic throughout.
Including family pets in your baby photography
I am always delighted when families include their pets in a session, and the family dog was a big part of this shoot. There is something so special about capturing the relationship between babies and their pets, and the way they interact together.
I also always enjoy the moments around mealtimes. Babies exploring food and a hopeful dog nearby hoping for a dropped snack never fails to make me smile. Those small, real moments often become favourites.
At home baby photography
I love photographing babies and families at home. Being in a familiar environment helps little ones feel relaxed and content, and everything the family needs is close to hand. It also makes it easy to pause for naps when needed, which often happens during sessions with young children.
Including the home itself in the photographs is always important to me. In this case, the beautiful period features and large windows created a beautiful backdrop for portraits.
Books and toys
Books are such a lovely thing to include in baby photography sessions. Even before reading begins, little ones enjoy exploring books in their own way, turning pages, or even seeing if books might be a tasty snack or a perfect teething tool.
I have always loved the idea that early familiarity with books helps build a lasting connection to them. Whether it is a favourite story or simply the joy of handling a book, these moments feel meaningful to capture.
Outdoor baby photography in Finsbury Park
As ‘mud-season’ draws to a close I’m loving the better weather. We wrapped up warm and headed out for some outdoor baby photography in Finsbury Park. Including both indoor and outdoor images adds a variety to a gallery and gives a fuller sense of the day.
We had lovely walk to the park, avoiding the worst of the puddles, and made the most of the natural surroundings. Early blossom always lifts the mood and it was wonderful to see this curious little boy taking everything in.
It is always special to photograph this stage, knowing how quickly it will pass and how much will change in such a short time.
