Just One – Emily – Islington children’s and family photographer

It was a lovely local shoot for today’s ‘Just One’ image from our children’s and family photo session in Islington, North London N1. I’m really enjoying exploring North London since my move to Crouch End and I was excited to be visiting this area of Islington.

I was also thrilled to be seeing Debbie again, who I last saw in 2010 for a baby and family photo shoot at their Islington home. Last time we spent a fabulous morning capturing many lovely shots, and so I was really excited to be going back.

When I arrived at Debbie’s beautiful home, I was greeted by two very excited young girls and I knew I would be in for a treat. Marianne and Emily were an absolute joy to photograph – they are so much fun and I found myself laughing out loud as I looked for interesting compositions and fun framing for these family pictures.

This shot is one of my favourites from the morning. As a photographer, I’m really enjoying sharing these ‘sneak peek’ Just One images with my readers – it’s lovely to talk in a little more detail about an image so you can see what makes me tick and hopefully for new visitors to the blog, it helps you decide if I am the photographer for you.

So what do I love about this image? It’s the expressions and the angles that I love. The expressions are of such intense love – Emily’s smile of joy and happiness, and her little hands resting on her daddy’s face, so trusting and gentle as she squidges her face to his for a nuzzle of pure love. What more could a children’s and family photographer hope to capture in an image?

From a compositional point of view, I also like the repeating arrow shapes. The noses so close with an upturned ‘v’ of light, mirroring the lines of smiling mouths and raised chins, the bent elbow and the curved wrist. All these arrows move the eye up the frame and then you have Emily’s legs anchoring the eye with the ‘v’ of shadow in the top left corner and the eye goes straight back down to the faces – a circle round and round, always coming back to that expression of pure joy. I love it and I hope you will too, and I’ll share some more pictures from this fun-filled family shoot soon.

If you would like me to visit and capture some pictures of your own family, please contact us – we would be delighted to hear from you.
