Masterclass at the Societies of Photographers
Improving Your Family Photography
On Wednesday 16thJanuary at 1pm I will be giving a talk on Improving Your Family Photography at the Societies of Photographers Convention in London. This annual convention is the biggest gathering of social photographers in Europe and brings together four days of masterclasses with a large trade show. It’s a ‘must go’ event for everyone in the wedding and portrait photography field.
This will be my sixth time speaking at the convention and I’m thrilled to have been asked to share my experience and skills with my fellow professional photographers. It’s always such a fantastic event and brilliant to see old friends and meet new ones.
I love the process of writing the talks – putting together my ideas and creating a workshop that will entertain and, most importantly, teach. I want my attendees to go away with ideas to improve their own work whatever their skill level and also whatever their precise genre. We all photograph in such different ways – our vision being a combination of our interests, our life experience and our visual awareness. I think as a teacher that it’s important to encourage each photographer to develop their own vision rather than produce cookie cutter imitations of my work.
I will be looking at different ways we can improve our work and giving practical exercises and advice that can be utilised in different settings and also across different genres – whether we photograph children, families or even weddings, we all need to improve our work year on year.
As well as giving my talk I will also be working on the Light Blue Software stand (65 & 76) for the whole of the trade show 17th-19thJanuary. This fantastic software is the lifeblood of my business, without it I would have drowned in a sea of post-it-notes years ago.
I use Light Blue to keep track of everything – my clients, my enquiries, my orders, invoices and accounts. It’s the one stop shop for running a photography business and completely invaluable.
Last week, Light Blue Software launched version 8, their most exciting update yet. Packed with new features to make communicating with clients easier, book more shoots, and free up your time so you can escape the tyranny of admin and take more pictures. Pop by the stand for a demo or to ask any questions.
To attend my talk you need a masterclass ticket which are available here it’s £75 for a day pass (£50 for members) or £225 for the whole show (£150 members). If you just want to visit the trade show then pre-registration for free tickets has now closed but if you use the Light Blue promo code LightBlue19 you have until Friday evening to register for free.
I do hope to see you there, it promises to be a great show.
Please note – the convention and trade show are at a different venue this year: Novotel London West, Hammersmith, W6 8DR.
