Family Photo Shoot on Holiday in Norfolk
A Norfolk family photography adventure
This was a photo shoot I’d been looking forward to for a long time, a family photo shoot in Norfolk with a wonderful family I’ve been lucky enough to work with since 2017.
Over that time we’ve done lots of brilliant photo shoots, all of which have been highlights of their particular year due to the wonderful personalities of everyone involved. We’ve always had so much fun and even when our locations have thrown us a curveball we’ve always got the most amazing pictures. I’ll never forget the time we turned up at the park for our photo shoot and found the place flooded, but wellies and waterproofs meant we had the most amazing time paddling, splashing, collecting worms and it’s remained one of my favourite family photo shoots ever.
So I had high expectations of this family photography session in Norfolk and I wasn’t disappointed. We had the most amazing time and it was one of the best days of 2025.
Heading to Norfolk
The family had a holiday booked on the North Norfolk coast and we thought it would be brilliant fun if I joined them for a day. This sounded brilliant to me and so I jumped on a train the day before and spent a night at the Premier Inn in Norfolk before catching a very early train to Great Yarmouth ready to meet the family at 8am.
We wanted an early start to make the best of the day, enjoy beautiful light and have the beach to ourselves, and it was absolutely worth the early alarm clock.
Once we had had a coffee we headed out to explore the caravan park which was full of so many cool things, a perfect place for a family holiday and a relaxed start to a family photo shoot.
Haven holiday park
Exploring Haven holiday park was a great way to start the day and we had such fun playing on the swings as well as taking some family photos to get us off to a good start. I like to take a few family group shots at the start of my photo shoots to ensure I have something in the bag and because it concentrates the mind and gets everyone into photo shoot mode.
Then it was off to play, have fun and explore.
Family photos among the sand dunes in North Norfolk
To get to the beach we had to walk across some wonderful sand dunes and it was only moments before we found ourselves playing a game. The best family photos are always made when everyone is having fun together, and games and activities work so well for relaxed family photography.
We played tag and hide and seek, running around and getting nice and warm even on a cooler autumn day with a brisk sea breeze.
Sandcastles and engineering feats
From there it was down onto the sand. I love North Norfolk’s beaches which seem to stretch forever, glorious sand with the wind farms spinning on the horizon. There’s always something magical about the light on the east coast and it was beautiful soft low sunshine for our family photo shoot.
The kids loved building a trench which they filled with water and enjoyed watching how the sand reacted to buckets of water and piles of stones. I had such fun photographing them, finding different angles and approaches to their games.
A trip to town and beach huts
By this point everyone was getting a bit hungry and keen to avoid the dreaded hanger, so we decided to pack up our spades and head into Great Yarmouth to find some lunch. A burger later we were all full of energy for a bit more exploring before I had to get my train home.
We decided to walk along the seafront to find a Venetian water garden we had driven past on the way into town and we had such fun along the way.
The first thing we found was an amazing row of beautiful beach huts. The waterfront was deserted and so we spent a happy time playing hide and seek among the huts, the kids having such fun finding and running from their parents. I love beach huts, they are so iconic of the British seaside and there’s always a wonderful combination of lovely light and strong leading lines which works beautifully for family photography.
Great Yarmouth Venetian Gardens
Our last stop was the Venetian water gardens, a lovely manicured area of greenery just by the sea. With little bridges to walk over and tiny corners to explore it was the perfect end to our day and a really calm location for family photos.
We had such fun and it was tired and happy children and a tired and happy photographer who headed back to ice cream and the car. For me, a train journey home and a long nap between Norwich and London. For the children, a bit of downtime before the evening’s entertainment at the Haven caravan park.
It was a perfect day and we all had the most amazing time. I hope you have enjoyed this selection of images from our family photo shoot in Norfolk. If you would like to arrange a family photography session for your children next year then do get in touch. I’m taking bookings throughout the year and it would be lovely to meet you and your family in 2026.
