At home and outdoor family photography in Fitzrovia
I spent a wonderful morning recently photographing this lovely family in Fitzrovia in central London. I love how my job takes me all over the capital photographing children and families, sensing such lovely homes and exploring the capital’s wonderful parks. We had such a fun morning of photography, and I’m thrilled with the images.
Low winter light in Fitzrovia
We had the most amazing low winter light for our photo shoot, which made for such great images. Summer is always such a popular time for pictures, and of course has much to recommend it, but for interesting light the other seasons are all so much better. Low sunshine, long shadows, there is so much to love.
Arriving at Regent’s Park the light was just fantastic, and I had great fun incorporating shadows into my pictures.
Running around
With little ones they just want to run around, and as a family photographer there is nothing more fun to photograph than an excited and energetic two-year-old exploring the world and having fun with their parents. I love the fact that the best pictures are to be found when people are having fun, and so my days are filled with joy as I get to photograph families enjoying their time together.
We started by exploring some little corners where we could avoid the crowds and instead look at leaves and squirrels and all the joys that nature has to offer.
Cuddles
I like to keep family photo shoots moving and to find different locations and activities so I can create the widest variety of images for the family. After a fun time playing with the bubbles we headed further into the park. We found another quiet area to play some football and hide and seek, both big favourites of my little subject.
I love how little ones play games and how hugs and snuggles are a big part of any activity. Kick a football, have a cuddle, kick a football, have another cuddle. Children have such a wonderful approach to spending time with the people they love.
At-home family photography in Fitzrovia
By this point I thought it might be a good idea to have a change of scene, and something to eat, so we headed home for a truly excellent toasted sandwich and a few pictures indoors. Whatever the weather, I like to take some photographs at home, as home is where the heart is and such a big part of children’s lives.
It is lovely to see the places where they play day in, day out, and to take some images with favourite toys or while doing favourite activities. These indoor images have such a different look and feel to the outdoor photographs, and having a combination of both creates a really lovely and varied selection. Fitzrovia is such a lovely part of London and it was a joy to take these at-home family photographs there.
