Summer Family Photography with Siblings in Hampstead and Highgate
It was an absolute joy to see this family recently for a photo shoot in Hampstead and Highgate, our second photography session together.
Seeing families again is one of the great pleasures of my job. After our wonderful first session I had been hoping we would catch up again. Planning our photo shoot to fit when the whole family was free in the summer, we were rewarded with fantastic weather and a glorious day together.
Relaxed Summer Vibes on Hampstead Heath
Last time we had met it was just at the end of lockdown on a crisp autumn day with low sunlight. It felt like a different lifetime compared with this bright warm summer day as we ventured out to Hampstead Heath.
Everyone was in such a joyful mood as we found ourselves a spot to use as a base to relax and play.
Photographing Siblings in Hampstead and Highgate
The bond between the three siblings was a joy to see. I loved photographing them together and separately, capturing portraits as well as candid moments of them playing. There was such a sense of protective kindness for their younger sister, but also that spark of fun that siblings always bring.
One of my favourite images of the day was the youngest flying down a hill in her pushchair, her older sister racing alongside her. Hands were off the pushchair but close enough to catch it if needed. That mix of laughter, trust and just enough adventure is one of the joys of childhood and sibling relationships.
Dogs Joining the Family Photo Shoot
The family dogs were a delight and tried their best to steal the show, posing beautifully and racing around the grass. I love it when animals are included in family photography sessions. They are wonderful to photograph on their own but also bring out so much joy in children. Everyone forgets their inhibitions when running and playing with their pets, which always makes for natural and happy photographs.
The eldest sibling is a talented athlete, and I wanted to reflect this in some images. Running along the path with the dogs gave the perfect opportunity. It showed his incredible speed while the dogs chased alongside, sharing the fun. Photographing children and animals together always creates such lively and memorable moments.
Swing Photography in the Garden
Back home we moved to the garden for photographs on the swing. A majestic tree provided the perfect structure and the girls were able to swing high with ease.
Two of my favourite photographs from the session came from this moment. The first was a panning shot of the youngest laughing with joy, the second a silhouette of her older sister soaring above the house and into the gap between the trees. I love approaching each scene from different angles to create as much variety as possible.
At Home Family Photography in Highgate
We finished the session indoors with playtime for the youngest and some gentle images of the hands-on therapy she does with her mother. Little ones bring so much joy to everyday moments. She was clearly delighted, dancing around the room and smiling up at her mum as they played with toys and looked at a book together.
