Just One – Jenny and Issy – family photography in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire

I love it when one of my previous family photography clients recommends me to a friend – I always know I’m going to have the most wonderful time and meet some really lovely people. I was thrilled when Jenny contacted us and explained that she was a friend of the lovely Melanie and Layton, whose children I have photographed a number of times. I was so excited when we arranged our photo shoot with her family in Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire.

The weather over the half term holiday has been ‘interesting’ to say the least, with the storm and its aftermath, and a variety of lovely and horrible days. We were lucky for our session and while a little grey and blustery, the rain held off until the end of our children’s photography session. The grey light you have on a slightly miserable day is actually wonderful for photography – really beautiful, soft light that is incredibly flattering. We photographers love a grey day.

We had the most amazing time on our photo session, starting with a few pictures at home and then heading to the wonderful National Trust property Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire where the children had the most amazing time, scooting on the paths, jumping over the stepping stones, going down the truly incredible slide and climbing trees. We have so many lovely shots that I can’t wait to share in a future blog post.

For today’s ‘Just One’ preview picture, this single image really captures the feeling of the day and I chose this image of Jenny and her beautiful daughter Issy laughing together under the canopy of a wonderful old tree.

I love everything about this image, but particularly the lovely expression on Issy’s face as she looks at her mum, the centre of her world. It’s such a joyful picture and they are both so happy – it encapsulates everything I look for in a children and family photograph with its lovely expressions, a feeling of the environment with that wonderful big tree in the background that – as the children look at the pictures over the years – will take them back to many happy days spent at Cliveden.
