Just One – children’s birthday party photography in Notting Hill, London

Today’s ‘Just One’ preview image is from a recent children’s birthday party photography shoot in Notting Hill, London W11. We had the most amazing day with an incredible show from Michael’s Mobile Menagerie with a tarantula, a snake, a meerkat and a skunk to name just a few of the wonderful animals they bought to show the children. It was just wonderful and one of the best children’s birthday parties I have been to in a very long time, held in one of my favourite children’s party venues, the wonderful Westbourne Grove Church in Notting Hill.

This picture, today’s Just One preview, was the first exhibit of the day – a beautiful owl. I love this shot as the light on the little boy’s face is just perfect, sculpting his face and really drawing the eye to his lovely expression. I love how his eyes are going in the exact opposite direction of the owl, each covering one area of the room and both with total concentration.

It’s always so much fun choosing my favourite images from a children’s photography sessions and even more so from a birthday party, where there is always so much going on. It’s nice to sometimes keep it simple, to concentrate on a single child and a single moment or activity, and this is what I feel we have with this shot – a boy and his owl, although this time not heading to Hogwarts.
