Just One – Christening photography in Ascot
I love photographing christenings and so I was thrilled when Nikki asked me to visit her in Ascot to document Archie’s special day. The morning dawned with beautiful weather and I jumped on the train full of the joys of spring and in anticipation of a wonderful day. I wasn’t disappointed.
On arrival I was met by Nikki’s lovely husband Bruce and driven back to the family home which was full of an enormous extended family – little Archie has eight brothers and sisters, lucky thing! And almost as many dogs and cats too. It was wonderful and I can only imagine how much fun it will be to grow up surrounded by so much noise, laughter and love.
The christening itself at St Mary’s Church in Winkfield was just lovely – a really wonderful and relaxed vicar made for a beautiful service which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and then we travelled to the amazing Coworth Park in Ascot for the reception. Champagne flowed and an incredible afternoon tea was served. What a marvellous day!
This ‘Just One’ image caught my eye as I began processing the pictures as it is the real heart of the day. I love everything about it from the vicar on the left gesturing to welcome Archie into the church, the smiles on everyones faces – the proud parents and godparents – and the crowd of family and friends in the foreground giving a visual reminder of the many people who were there to support Archie and welcome him into their family and the family of the church he was joining in the ceremony.
I also love that this image shows the architecture of the church, which is such a beautiful building with the wonderful light streaming in from behind the family and the repeated arches of the window and the roof really drawing the eye back to the family, to the focus, to Archie on his christening day.
I’ll be posting some more images from this wonderful day soon but in the meantime I hope you enjoy this ‘Just One’ image from Archie’s christening in at St Mary’s Church in Winkfield and Coworth Park in Ascot.
