Just One – Ella – family photographer in South London
Today’s ‘Just One’ preview image is another picture taken during the half term holiday last week, and another wonderful family photo shoot – this time in South London, nice and close to where I grew up in Blackheath. I met Alex and her family back in 2010 and I was so thrilled to be invited back for a second shoot this year. I have such fond memories of our last shoot, building sandcastles at Hilly Fields and playing with the hose in the garden. I knew we would have a great time again.
We decided to brave the drizzle and head out to Streatham Woods for our family shoot, and they were wonderful. I can’t quite believe I didn’t know that the woods were there before. It’s one of the strange things about London – you know your own little corner like the back of your hand, but sometimes somewhere only a couple of miles away is a whole new world. I wish I had known about them when I had been living in Blackheath and training for a marathon, as I would definitely have run there. As it was, it was a totally new location to me and we had a great time exploring. Alex and Ella had visited the woods once before (which was great as Ella drew us a map to help us on our way, always useful) and we found the most incredible ruined building – possibly a house, possibly a church – whatever it was, it was fantastic.
It’s always lovely to find something which adds a bit of visual interest to a formal family picture, and the ruin was great for that. By putting each family member at slightly different heights, it made for a really interesting composition and combined with the lovely relaxed expressions, we created a really wonderful family photograph.
After taking this picture, we found many other fantastic spots in the wood and then headed to Dulwich Park for a change of location, which resulted in lots more wonderful pictures which I look forward to sharing in a full blog post in due course.
In the meantime, I hope you like this, today’s ‘Just One‘, a family picture that I am thrilled with from our recent photo shoot in South London.
