Newborn Photography Hackney East London – Just One
Today on the blog I’m delighted to share a stunning mother and newborn baby portrait from a recent family photography session in Hackney in East London. The weather at the moment is just wonderful for family portraits and I’m always keen to make the most of natural light and the environment even when photographing newborns, which often involve being inside for the majority of the session.
When I arrived at the stunning Hackney home where we were taking our family photographs I was immediately struck by the fabulous light that illuminated both the master bedroom and the downstairs living room with a wonderful soft glow. As a photographer I’m always looking at the light and will explore a house to find the best spots for newborn and family portraits. While we did the majority of the photo shoot in the master bedroom, a lovely and relaxed spot for pictures we spent some time in the living room and this is definitely one of my favourite pictures from the day.
opening the back doors meant we could utilize the sunlight streaming in from outside and I placed Laleh and Sayavash a little back from the door so that the light illuminated them but didn’t overpower, successful backlighting takes practice and I’ve spent many years shooting against the light to create beautiful portraits like this. I love the soft halo effect as the light wraps delicately around the subjects features, it creates such a light, airy and bright feel to the picture.
What I love the most though is Laleh’s expression, so full of love as she looks down on her beautiful sleeping son, so happy and content in her arms. It’s a wonderful moment between the two of them and I love the fact that – while I put them in the light – the action, that delicate touch of nose to nose, was entirely their own, part of their special relationship of mother and son full of all the love of a happy family.
