Notting Hill Child Portrait – Just One – Toni
Sometimes I’m completely captivated by a smile and that is certainly the case in this lovely portrait of Toni from my recent family photography session in Notting Hill W2.
When I first met Toni she was only a week old and we spent a wonderful morning taking her newborn portraits and pictures with her fantastic older sister Ava who was absolutely hilarious, one of the most entertaining children I’ve photographed. I was really looking forward to returning for another session and I was not disappointed. We had a brilliant time.
As it was a wet morning we started the day indoors playing in various spots around the house and the girls entertaining each other with toys and games. When it began to dry out we decided to head outside for a bit, get some fresh air and have a run around before making the promised chocolate cake (always a wonderful activity for a rainy day). This shot was taken just before we headed out and captivated me from the moment I clicked the shutter.
I love the simplicity of the portrait and Toni’s wonderful expression, laughing up at me from her position sitting in the buggy. Pictures can be taken in so many locations you might not initially feel are promising, a child sitting in their buggy for example, but with the right light a really dramatic portrait is possible. Here the light form the skylight above us illuminated Toni’s face and the shallow depth of field meant that her eyes stand out and the background blends into shadow, no details of the buggy to distract us from her wonderful expression.
I love images like this, pictures that make me smile and remind me of the wonderful times I have on my family photo shoots.
I do hope you like it as much as I do, today’s just one from my family photography session in Notting Hill.
