Stunning Child Portrait in Black and White in Holland Park
The weather doesn’t exactly feel like the middle of July but the diary does with children and family photography sessions coming thick and fast this month. I love being busy and it’s been wonderful to see so many familiar faces and also to meet so many lovely new clients these last few weeks.
I was thrilled when Shareefah got in touch to arrange her summer session, our fifth photo shoot. Shareefah travels to London to spend the summer each year and we’ve made a regular thing of our portrait sessions, meeting in London’s beautiful parks and spending a morning photographing the children. I always really look forward to our days together.
This year I was thrilled to meet Shareefah’s youngest daughter Souad for the first time and I thought I would share a portrait of her for my ‘Just One’. She’s such a beautiful girl and so much fun, we had a brilliant time playing with her older siblings and taking family photographs as we explored beautiful Holland Park in West London.
This classic portrait caught my eye and I just love it. I find Souad’s gaze completely arresting as she looks straight at the cameras. Her beautiful dark eyes draw me in. I love how her hair in the cute bunches give us an indication of how little she is but the expression is one that I imagine will be just the same when she is an adult, such a powerful look, serious and beautiful (very serious really when you consider she is actually sitting on a see-saw!)
I find that black and white photography really adds to the power of images like this, elevating them to something really special and completely timeless. It’s the power of monochrome portraiture to really get to the essence of an expression, the strength of a look and allows the creation of strong and beautiful portraits like this one.
