I love my job as a newborn and family photographer in London and I’m lucky that it takes me all over the capital, in fact all over the world, photographing families in their homes or their favourite places.  I have such a brilliant time and meet so many fantastic people in so many amazing places.

For all the excitement of travel and adventure, often the photo shoots that feel the most special are those which I do of newborn babies at their homes or their favourite places. These sessions feel such a privilege as it’s such an important time in the families lives and to be welcomed in, often before members of the family or close friends have met the baby, is a humbling experience. I’m there, recording this special time, in pictures to be treasured down the generations. I’m always so grateful that my clients choose me to photograph their children.

At home newborn photography in West London

I was thrilled to be booked for this session, especially when I heard that choosing me had been the result of significant research into newborn photographers all over London. I was thrilled that my natural style of newborn photography had appealed and I can’t wait to get the images printed and onto my client’s walls, they are going to look amazing.

We spent a wonderful morning together, chilling at their home and photographing their delightful young son as he enjoyed a morning of cuddles with his parents. The house was stunning and a dream to work in with soft window light providing the perfect illumination for our portraits.

Why I love at home newborn photography

I really enjoy photographing people in their homes as I get such a sense of their style and it’s also particularly good with newborn photography as we have everything on hand.

We work around the little one taking breaks as required for feeds and changes so that everyone has a lovely time and things are wonderful and relaxed.

Tiny hands and feet

Detailed photographs of tiny hands and feet are such a beautiful part of a newborn photo shoot. Babies grow so fast in the first few weeks and it’s so special to record just how tiny they once were. This little one had the cutest little toes, and I love the photo of his mum holding his foot with his tiny toes curling around her thumb, it gives such a sense of scale and there’s such a beautiful tenderness to the image. Photographing in black and white gives these images such a timeless feel elevating them to works of art to be treasured.

Photographing parents and babies together

The images I often love the most are the ones that have some interaction – where we can see parents looking at their baby with love in their eyes or laughing with each other so happy in their beautiful family unit. The tenderness, the joy, the love, it shines through the images, and I can only imagine how much this lovely little boy will enjoy looking back on them when he’s grown up.

Outdoor newborn photography at Chiswick House

Towards the end of the morning, we decided to go out to Chiswick House for some outdoor newborn photography. I love photographing both inside and outdoors where possible on my newborn photography shoots as it always adds such variety to the final selection of images – and I love photographing outside there are so many wonderful opportunities.

There’s something particularly special about this time of year – spring growth on the trees, a tiny newborn baby, all the promise of life and adventure to come.  It was a beautiful day, and Chiswick House is always such a glorious location for newborn photography with secluded woodland paths and some stunning buildings giving us wonderful opportunities for creative images.
