Helen Bartlett is a London-based newborn and family photographer with over 20 years’ experience, a Canon Ambassador since 2017, and the only family photographer in Europe to hold that title. She photographs newborns across Queen’s Park, Maida Vale, Kensal Rise, and the wider North West London area, working in a relaxed, baby-led way entirely at home and, where the family would like, with a short walk outdoors. This post covers a newborn photography session in Queen’s Park, including at-home portraits, sibling moments, a visit to the park itself, and quiet, intimate portraits to finish.

Newborn Photography at Home in Queens Park

A relaxed, baby-led newborn photography session in Queens Park, photographed at home and in the park, with beautiful sibling moments, individual portraits, and quiet family time. A natural, storytelling approach to newborn photography in Queens Park.

I was thrilled to be booked for this newborn photography in Queens Park session. I had been recommended to the family by another regular client of mine, and I always love recommendations as I know I am going to meet lovely people. We had such a brilliant time together and I am really happy to be sharing a few favourites from the session on the blog today.

A Relaxed At Home Newborn Photo Shoot in Queens Park

I love to photograph newborns at home because the family has everything they need close to hand, and it keeps things calm and relaxed. My newborn photography sessions in Queens Park are always very baby led, with plenty of time for feeds and settling, and this way everyone has a really lovely experience.

This family had a beautiful Queens Park home with gorgeous natural light, which I was able to supplement with a light panel to give us maximum flexibility during the session. The children were an absolute joy to photograph, and it was a real privilege to see their relationship at its very beginning.

Capturing Sibling Moments During a Newborn Photography Session

Sibling interactions are a joy to photograph at any age, but there is something particularly special about seeing an older sibling with a new brother or sister. During newborn photography sessions in Queens Park, I always look out for these natural, in-between moments.

Older siblings looking at the new baby with joy, happiness, or sometimes a little wariness, are always wonderful to look back on. My own favourite photo of my niece when she was born has her brother in the background, looking over the side of the bed with an expression of interest and caution, getting a feel for this new person who had entered his life.

On this shoot, though, it was pure joy from the older brother. He looked at his younger brother so happily and even read him his favourite storybook without any direction from the adults. These moments will bring so much happiness in the years to come, as the boys can look back on these early interactions and see the start of what I am sure will be a very special bond.

Individual Portraits of Your Newborn and Older Children

Over the course of a newborn photo shoot, I always make sure to take individual portraits. This includes portraits of the newborn, as well as portraits of any older siblings. These images work beautifully together and can look lovely displayed on the wall as a set.

Older children often really enjoy a little time in the spotlight, especially when a new brother or sister has just arrived. There are often perfect opportunities for this, for example while a newborn is feeding or being settled. At those moments, I can focus on their older brother or sister, chat, play a quick game, and create some relaxed and natural portraits.

Of course, I always make sure to take portraits of the new baby too. It is particularly lovely when the baby is awake and alert, as I love capturing the expressions newborns make as they take in their new world.

Outdoor Newborn Photography in Queens Park

It is often really nice to get out for a short walk during a newborn photography session, just as I would on any family photo shoot. Being indoors for too long can feel a little tiring, and a bit of fresh air and a change of scene can add variety to your newborn photos.

We headed out for a quick wander around Queens Park during this newborn photography session. We were not outside for very long, but it was enough to add some lovely images to the final gallery and to give everyone a little energy boost before heading back home.

Quiet and Intimate Moments to Finish Your Newborn Photo Shoot

After our time outside, we returned home for some quieter moments with mother and baby while the older sibling got ready for a friend’s birthday party. Finishing with calm, gentle portraits often works really well, especially as older children can start to feel tired as the morning goes on.

Working with children’s moods, and never pushing them too far, is always key to a successful family and newborn photography session. The light in the master bedroom was absolutely beautiful, with sheer window blinds that created a soft, studio-like background for some really lovely, natural portraits.

Frequently Asked Questions About Newborn Photography in Queens Park

My sessions focus on relaxed, natural family moments at home and, if it suits your family, a short walk outdoors. The aim is to create a varied gallery that includes your newborn, siblings, and time together as a family.

Yes, I specialise in at home newborn photography in Queens Park and across London. Photographing your baby at home keeps things calm and comfortable for everyone.

Newborn photography sessions are always baby led, with plenty of time for feeds and settling, so the pace stays relaxed and unhurried.

Absolutely. Sibling portraits and interactions are a really important part of my newborn photography sessions, and I always make time for both group photos and individual portraits.

Simple plain colours work best for family photography so that when you look back on the images you focus on the people not the clothes.

For your baby then it’s worth getting a nappy cover and Etsy do an amazing range of cute options so you can choose one you love. For a warmer out fit for your baby then think in terms of plain items that are close fitting, if in doubt go down a size rather than up a size for their outfit as otherwise, they can look swamped in a giant baby-grow. Plain vests can look great, or you might prefer something more formal – go with your personal style and we can do lots of changes to give you variety in your pictures. Some cute blankets for wrapping your baby also work well.

I recommend you book your newborn session for the first fortnight after your little one is born. Babies grow so fast in those early weeks, it’s lovely to record how tiny they are.

In the winter months and on darker days then yes, I will bring some additional lighting. I use a continuous light so we don’t have the distraction of flash and the daylight balance means all your images look great.

With over 23 years of experience photographing families and babies, I bring a calm, confident, and thoughtful approach to every newborn photography session. My work has received multiple awards and has been featured in the press, and I am also a Canon Ambassador, the only family photographer in Europe to hold this position.

More importantly, I focus on creating a relaxed experience and natural, meaningful photographs that reflect your family as you are, in your own home and in your own space. If you are looking for an experienced newborn photographer in Queens Park who will guide you gently through the process, I would love to hear from you.
