North London newborn photography
My Style of Newborn Photography
Hi, welcome to my blog, I’m Helen a specialist newborn, baby and family photographer based in North London.
Today on the blog I’m going to give you a brief introduction to my work and also share some shots from a single session to give you an idea of the type and variety of work you can expect from a newborn portrait shoot.
I work in a very relaxed natural style when photographing newborns. My emphasis is on recording your lives at this amazing time, so I take a lot of portraits of your little one and group shots with all of you in, but I also make sure to take pictures of the little in-between moments. I find that it’s often the real moments that create my favourite pictures, the way that you look at your tiny baby and hold their hand, that gentle stroke of their hair. These are the pictures that will transport you back to this magical time.
Sessions are completely baby led so there is always plenty of time for feeds and cuddles. I work around you and only ever do one session in a day to keep things relaxed.
We work in your home – and do check this link to read my guide to newborn photography at home and why that’s such a great way to work. Sessions at home mean you have everything to hand and also that we can incorporate your home into the pictures, your favourite bits of interior design can be the things that make your pictures sing.
A Safe Pair of Hands
Choosing a newborn photographer can be daunting – there are so many out there with such a wide array of experience and skills. I have included a reviews page on my website so you can see what previous clients have had to say and there’s also a page that shows some of my recent press cuttings, so you know you are in the hands of an expert. As the only family photographer in Europe to be a brand ambassador for Canon Inc. you know you will get great photographs of your family.
As well as looking at the pictures on this blog post and reading the newborn photography at home guide you might also enjoy browsing through my newborn photography portfolio or searching through other newborn pictures on this blog. Do spend time on the website so you can make an informed decision when choosing the right newborn photographer for your family.
My business is based around repeat clients, families who are so thrilled with their pictures that they return again and again. I’ve updated this blog to add in a few more recent pictures of Syavash from our annual sessions since his newborn session in 2016, we even did a shoot in Abu Dhabi in 2019! If you book me for your newborn portrait shoot, you won’t be disappointed as these happy clients demonstrate.
Syavash’s Newborn Photography Session in North London 2016
I was thrilled when Laleh contacted me from her home in the United Arab Emirates to arrange a newborn and family photo shoot when she would be in London for the birth of her first child. I could tell immediately from her emails that we were going to get on really well and I was really looking forward to the session.
We had the most wonderful morning; it was such a joy to meet little Syavash and to document this early time in his life. Some of my sessions are filled with so much laughter and this was one of those, we had such fun as we took the pictures, looking back over the images as I write this blog post I find myself smiling at each and every shot.
Photographing newborn babies is always such a pleasure, I feel so privileged to be invited into my client’s homes at such an early stage – most newborn photography happens within the first fortnight and I’m often one of the very first visitors. It’s always really special.
We started off indoors, taking pictures in different rooms and moving around to utilize the best light and different backgrounds. It’s amazing the difference in feel you get to pictures taken in different rooms, a lovely white bedroom provided a simple backdrop and then, downstairs, French windows to the garden gave a very different look. My job as a photographer is to utilize each of my client’s homes to provide the very best pictures.
Towards the end of the session we left the house and went for a walk to a nearby park. It was such a beautiful day and felt so good to get out and about. Baby Syavash loved being outside and slept soundly as we took some family photographs filled with the lush greenery of London in the summer.
