Baby and family portrait photography in Mile End and Victoria Park, East London

I first met Penny and Mike many years ago, when photographed Mike’s sister Fran’s wedding back in the days that I still used to photograph weddings. Since then, I have been lucky enough to photograph Fran’s growing family and I last saw Penny and Mike at Fran’s son Roker’s third birthday party back in 2010. I remember having a wonderful chat with Mike about Billingsgate fish market and being lucky enough to be invited to stay for a lunch of incredible bbq’d fish. These things tend to stick in my memory and so I was thrilled when Fran asked if she could gift Penny and Mike a photoshoot with their beautiful baby Alexa.

I headed to Mile End in East London to meet Penny and Mike, and capture some baby and family photographs. Baby Alexa was an absolute delight to photograph, full of smiles and laughter and incredibly cute.

We started off taking baby and family photographs in Penny and Mike’s incredibly cool flat – it was full of wonderful pieces of design and with floor to ceiling windows that provided wonderful natural light for me to photograph with. Alexa had a lovely time showing me her rolling skills, and even sitting in her new Bumbo chair allowing me to take some lovely close-up portraits even though she isn’t able to sit up on her own yet.

We even took some pictures using the wonderful neon heart that Penny and Mike explained had been a decorative feature at their wedding – the picture was my Just One preview post and I share it again here as I think it’s such a fun shot. I never bring props to my shoots, but when I find something in my clients’ homes – a feature that has meaning for them personally – it can be lovely to incorporate these elements into the family photography session.

After Alexa’s nap, we headed out to the wonderful nearby Victoria Park for some outdoor family and baby photographs. It’s a brilliant park and one I don’t know very well, having only visited it for the first time earlier this year. Penny and Mike showed me their favourite places in the park, and we had a great time incorporating the different environmental elements into their pictures. The sun even came out, giving us some wonderful low winter light for our pictures.

We had a great time and I’m thrilled with the images from our baby and family photography session on location in Mile End, East London – I hope you enjoy them, too!
