Baby and Family Photography in North London
It’s been such a busy summer, and I’ve got a bit behind sharing images from my baby and family photography work here on the blog. I’m so pleased to be back to it today and sharing some wonderful pictures from this amazing baby and family photography session in Hackney.
This was a baby photography session that had all my favourite elements: an eight-month-old baby which is always an absolute joy, and a massive dog which adds a fantastic level of chaos. We spent a wonderful morning together at the family’s beautiful home and also out at nearby Clissold Park which is a fantastic North London location for baby photography.
Working Around Baby’s Schedule
When booking a baby photography session, it’s great to have a chat a bit before the day to find out the little one’s schedule so we can work the pictures around naps and meals and ensure that baby keeps to their normal routine, and everyone has a brilliant time. For this session we started a little later than normal to fit with nap times and it worked brilliantly. I arrived to be greeted by the most cheerful smiley baby ever.
We started by taking pictures in the kitchen before the mid-morning nap. So many houses now have absolutely incredible light in the kitchen, and it works so well for photography. Letting the little one roll around on her play mat I joined her on the floor to get my camera to eye level for some beautiful portraits.
Baby Photography in Clissold Park
After a quick snooze we headed out to the park. The weather has been so mixed recently, and it was a windier day than we had anticipated but the light was lovely and wrapping the baby snug as a bug in a rug in a gorgeous shawl meant she was happy and snug as we took pictures. Clissold Park is a wonderful location for baby and family photography.
Including Pets in Family Photos
I’m always so pleased when clients tell me they want to include their pets in the photos. These pictures work so well and it’s lovely to have the whole family involved in a family photo shoot. The family dog was immaculately behaved and sat so happily along with their tiny playmate for a beautiful shot of them together. It was fun to include the dog in lots of the outdoor pictures, either as part of a posed family group shot or as a presence such as the silhouette in the foreground of this beautiful mother and baby picture.
Back Home for Indoor Baby Photography
By this point it was getting a little chilly with the high wind, so we headed home for some more indoor pictures and took my favourite image of the day, which opens this blog post, my favourite baby and piano image ever. That’s high praise as I’ve taken a lot of baby and piano pictures over the years. This one is totally glorious though, look at that wonderful expression.
Walking around the house we found so many great options for family photos, from the mirror in the gym to a story on the nursery floor. Utilising window light to create dramatic images and also taking pictures that incorporate elements of the family home.
I love to create variety in my work, and this photo shoot gave so many opportunities for different types of images all of which will have different memories and meaning to the family. From the dramatic beauty of a window lit portrait to an image looking down into the baby’s cot complete with mobiles and joyful little face. It’s a wonderful mix and a great record of a fantasia photoshoot with a wonderful family who I hope I will see again and again as this little one grows up.
