A Newborn Session with Big Sisters

I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful newborn baby with his older sisters in Holland Park and Kensington recently, and I’m thrilled to be sharing some favourite images today: a sneak preview for the family while I process the images for their viewing session.

Sibling relationships are one of the things I find most fascinating in my work, and it’s glorious to see it in its earliest days. It was a joy to see how much these lovely young ladies doted on their baby brother, how gentle they were with him, how protective, and how much they adored him. It’s a wonderful feeling to think he will be able to look back on these pictures in the future and know how much he was loved from his earliest days.

Holland Park for Outdoor Newborn Photographs

As it’s been so hot recently, we planned to head out first thing so we could do our outdoor pictures before it got too warm. It was such a good decision, as Holland Park was very quiet and the light was lovely: some cloud cover gave us beautiful soft light and kept the temperature down.

I love Holland Park for newborn and family photos, as there are so many hidden corners where we can find great light and space to stop, relax for a bit, and enjoy being outdoors, letting the family relax and enjoy their time together.

Using the Environment

I love to incorporate the natural environment into my photographs, using leaves and branches as framing devices to create interesting compositions. I find that the added layers of a shallow depth of field, and working with the natural world, can create a beautiful ethereal feeling to the images.

A Relaxed Little Man

I love how chilled out the babies of big families are. This little one was so relaxed, snoozing happily in the arms of whoever was lucky enough to be holding him, and everyone wanted to be holding him. What a lucky little boy to be so loved.

Portraits

On family photo shoots like this I like to make sure I take portraits of all the children. The catalyst for the session is the birth of the newborn, but it’s lovely to take portrait pictures of the older children too.

At Home in Kensington

Back home it was lovely to take some pictures of the little one snuggled on his parents’ bed. It’s great to have the opportunity to have pictures where the little one isn’t being held, as well as the beautiful ones where they are, as variety is always good in a family photo shoot. I also think it’s lovely to see those little fingers and toes which are so tiny now and yet will grow so fast.

We finished with a few photos in the little one’s nursery, which is always lovely to do. It’s nice to include a few of the well-thought-out details which make a house a home.

This was a wonderful session from start to finish, and I’m so excited to share the full gallery with the family in due course. In the meantime, I hope you have enjoyed this sneak preview from a newborn and family photo shoot with teenagers in Holland Park, W11.

Newborn Photography in Holland Park and West London: FAQs

Yes, Holland Park is one of my favourite spots for outdoor newborn photography. Its quiet corners and dappled light are perfect for soft, natural portraits, and I regularly photograph families across Holland Park, Kensington, and the surrounding areas of West London.

I photograph families throughout Holland Park, Kensington, Notting Hill, and the wider West London area, as well as across London and the UK more broadly. Sessions can take place outdoors in a local park, at home, or as a mix of both.

Absolutely, and it’s one of my favourite types of session. I make sure to capture the newborn with the whole family, individual portraits of older siblings, and the small, natural moments between them, which are often the images families treasure most.

Both work beautifully, and combining the two gives lovely variety. Outdoor light in a park like Holland Park has a different quality to the softer, more intimate feel of photographs taken at home, so I love to include both whenever the weather allows.

I’m always happy to fit newborn sessions in at short notice if the diary allows, though many families like to book while still pregnant so a date is held for the early weeks. Do get in touch as soon as you can, and I’ll do my best to work around you.

Once I’ve processed the images, we arrange a viewing session in your home where we go through the full gallery together. It’s a lovely, relaxed way to choose your favourites.
