She has been photographing newborns and their families in Holland Park, Kensington, and across West London since 2003. This page covers newborn photography sessions in Holland Park W11 and Kensington W8, working at home in the first precious days and, when the weather allows, with a short walk into Holland Park itself.
Natural, baby-led newborn photography in Holland Park W11 and Kensington W8: at home in the first days of life, with siblings and family, and an optional walk into one of West London’s most beautiful parks.
Newborn Photographer in Holland Park W11 and W8 – How it Works
Photographing newborn babies in their first few days is one of the most extraordinary privileges of my work as a family photographer, and I would love to visit you in Holland Park or Kensington to photograph your family in these early days.
My newborn photography in Holland Park is all about documenting these early moments as naturally as possible. I do not use props. Instead, I work to create images that are full of the particular details of your own home and your own family: the way the light falls across your nursing chair by the window, the look that passes between two parents as they both realise what it means to have a new person in their lives, the extraordinary smallness of a baby’s hand curled around a father’s finger as they are rocked to sleep after a feed. These are the details that make photographs matter and that will bring back so many memories as the years pass.
At home and outdoors in Holland Park
Working at home means you are surrounded by everything that is familiar and important to you. Your home becomes part of the photographs in a way that adds character and memory, and being at home keeps everything calm and relaxed for a newborn. I only photograph one family per day, so there is never any pressure to hurry feeds or rush a settling. The session is entirely led by your baby’s needs.
If the weather is kind we can head outside for a short walk in Holland Park to add a few outdoor images to the set or if you have keys to one of the beautiful garden squares such as Ladbroke Square or Camden Hill Square that would be perfect.
Holland Park is one of the most beautiful parks in West London, and even a short visit adds real variety to the final gallery. It is completely optional and always follows your baby’s lead: some of the most beautiful newborn sessions I have photographed have been entirely at home, and the park is a bonus on good weather day.
Do spend some time in my London newborn photographer gallery and on the blog before to get a feel for my work. You can see exactly how indoor and outdoor images work together in a Holland Park session, and get a strong sense of the quality and variety of the pictures you can expect.

When to book your Holland Park newborn session
The ideal time for your newborn session is within the first fortnight after your baby arrives: days four to fourteen are perfect, when they are still tiny and new and that extraordinary newborn quality is at its most beautiful. Most families book their date before the baby is born to be sure of a space in the diary, and I am always happy to move the date forward or back once the baby arrives, since babies do not always arrive on time.
If your baby is already here and you have not yet booked, please do get in touch. I will do my best to find a date that works for you. The sooner you contact me the better, as that early newborn window closes quickly.
Helen has been photographing our family every year since our daughter was born 12 years ago and now have a great record of our growing and changing family. Not only is Helen an excellent photographer who takes great shots of all the family, she also manages to do this in a relaxed and fun way.
Why black and white works so beautifully for newborn photography in Holland Park
I have worked exclusively in black and white throughout my 20-year career, and nowhere is that choice more visible in its effect than in newborn photography. A newborn baby’s skin, the extraordinary softness of their features, the particular quality of morning light falling across a tiny eyelash or miniature fingernail: all of these are rendered more tenderly and more beautifully in black and white than they would be in colour.
Colour carries distractions. The particular shade of a wall, the pattern on a blanket, the colour of the light on a given morning: in a colour photograph, the eye moves between all of these. In black and white, everything unnecessary falls away and what remains is the light, the shape, and the person. A sleeping newborn in their parent’s hands becomes a study in tenderness rather than a record of what the nursery looked like that week.
When those photographs are taken outdoors in Holland Park, the same principle applies in a different way. The park’s ancient woodland, the dappled light through the tree canopy – these are all subjects that black and white photography handles with particular grace. The graphic quality of the park’s contrasts, light against shade, open grass against dense woodland, makes for pictures that are both beautiful and timeless in a way that colour rarely achieves.
I work exclusively in black and white because I believe it is the medium that will serve your photographs best over the longest time. Your newborn’s pictures will look as beautiful when they are thirty as they do today. That is what black and white gives you that colour cannot.

Holland Park Newborn Photography – Frequently Asked Questions
I photograph newborns and their families across Holland Park W11, Kensington W8, Notting Hill W11, Ladbroke Grove W10, and the wider West London area including Earl’s Court SW5 and Shepherd’s Bush W12. I am happy to travel all over London and the home counties, for photo shoots outside the M25 additional charges do apply.
The ideal window is between four and fourteen days after birth. In those first two weeks, newborns have an extraordinary quality: the particular way they curl and sleep, the smallness of their features, the tenderness of those very first days. After four weeks that quality begins to change as babies become more alert and the early newborn stage passes and new and wonderful stages await when your baby starts to hold their head and smile at around 12-16 weeks. I recommend booking your date before your baby arrives so that you have a space in the diary without having to think about it in those first exhausted days. I am completely flexible around early or late arrivals.
I always start newborn sessions at home, where your baby is most comfortable and you have everything you need to hand. If the weather is beautiful and your baby is happy, we can then take a short walk into Holland Park to add some outdoor images to your selection. Holland Park is one of the most beautiful parks in West London and adds wonderful variety to the final gallery. That said, it is always optional and entirely follows your baby’s lead. Some of the most beautiful newborn sessions I have photographed have been entirely at home.
I have worked exclusively in black and white throughout my career because I believe it is the medium that best serves family photography over the long term. For newborn photography in particular, black and white renders the extraordinary softness of a newborn baby with a tenderness that colour cannot match. It removes the distractions of the moment, the colour of the walls, a toy in the corner, the weather on the day of your photo shoot, and leaves only what matters: the people, the relationship, and the feeling. Those pictures will look as beautiful when your child is thirty as they do today and that is important in newborn and family photography.
Absolutely, and sibling moments are some of the most treasured images from any newborn session. The relationship between an older child and their new brother or sister is at its very beginning during those first days, and photographs that capture those early interactions become deeply precious as the children grow. I always make time for sibling portraits as well as individual newborn portraits and quieter family moments. I’ll always make sure your older children feels involved in the process and has their moment in the sun in what can be an exciting, and sometimes overwhelming, few weeks for them.
Newborn sessions are always baby-led, so I never set a fixed end time. I allow the full morning and stay for as long as it takes to build a beautiful, varied gallery. We work entirely around feeds, nappy changes, and settling time. The relaxed, unhurried pace is what allows the most natural and tender pictures to emerge, and it is one of the things my clients value most about working with me.
Around three weeks after your session my colleague Andrea will visit you at home to show you your images and examples of all the products we offer. At this viewing, you choose what you would like to order from a range of beautiful options, including prints, framed prints, albums, and digital files. You can find full details on the Prices page.
