Baby Photography N6
Baby Portrait Session in N6
A lovely local shoot for me here on the blog today and the absolute joy of reconnecting with an old friend. I love my job so much, I get to meet so many amazing new people, but there is something really special about photographing someone that I know and meeting my friend’s children and so this baby portrait session in N6 was particularly special.
This session was also great fun as we were road testing the amazing Canon EOS R6 Mark III camera which I was given, pre-release, as part of my role as a Canon Ambassador. I wanted to use the camera in some real world situations to see how it would work for a family photographer. You can read my thoughts on the camera in my in-depth review here on my blog. Today though, I want to talk more about the pictures and this fun baby photography session in N6.
Outdoor baby portraits in N6
This area of North London has so many incredibly locations for outdoor baby photography and we decided that Highgate Wood would be perfect. Meeting up bright and early at 8am we had the place pretty much to ourselves, just us, a few dog walkers and a large number of the green parakeets that seem to be a big part of any woodland landscape now, chattering away together and providing a joyful soundtrack to our morning.
We started by finding a flat sheltered area to play. We wanted to avoid the paths so we didn’t have to get out of the way of other people and also as our little subject was only just learning to walk then slopes added an extra level of complexity to her explorations. North London of course, nowhere is flat, but we found a gentle slope and only had a few stumbles onto the lovely soft ground which was carpeted in autumn leaves.
Hide and seek
We had a brilliant time exploring and I loved taking portrait photographs and also shots that showed these early days on her feet. Games provided so much joy and hide and seek was a favourite that took us from playing in the trees across to the playground where peeking over, under, and around things brought smiles and laughter all round. We had such a good time.
Indoor baby portraits in N6
By mid-morning nap time approached and I wanted to try the camera out in lower light so we headed home. A sleep for the little one and a coffee for us while we planned the next part of our baby photography session in N6.
The family were just about to leave on a round the world adventure so much of the house was packed into boxes but there’s always opportunities for beautiful baby portraits whether in a beautifully designed and spotless house or when it’s working around boxes and the excitement of packing up a home. It’s all about angles and light and finding the opportunities.
Knowing our audience we played some more hide and seek as this was such a favourite and I love how little ones are so happy to hide under a blanket. The joy on her face as we ‘found her’ was such a delight to behold and using the blanket as a framing device and background was a great way to minimise distractions and create a really lovely composition.

Bubbles on a baby photo shoot in N6
We finished with some bubbles in the garden as bubbles are one of my favourite things and clearly one of my little subject’s favourites too. There is something so joyful about little ones faces as they reach for the glistening orbs, it always makes for a delightful baby photograph.
This was such a fun morning and a lovely example of a baby photo shoot in N6.
