Family Photography at Raffles Hotel and St James’s Park, London

London Vacation Photography for Families with Babies
Welcome to the blog! Today, I’m excited to share some favourite images from a recent family photography session in London, featuring the stunning Raffles Hotel, vibrant Trafalgar Square, peaceful St James’s Park, and the iconic Buckingham Palace.
This lovely family booked a photo shoot during their London vacation to celebrate their growing family. With a baby in tow and another on the way, it was a joyful double celebration. a beautiful way to capture this special time.
We crafted a relaxed route that combined London’s famous landmarks with family-friendly locations, minimizing travel so their little one could enjoy the day and explore freely. The result? A blend of iconic sights and heartfelt, natural family moments.
Family Photography at Raffles Hotel London
We began our session at the family’s accommodation – the breathtaking Raffles London at The OWO on Whitehall. The hotel kindly allowed us to photograph a few portraits on its grand staircase. With rich history and elegant interiors, Raffles Hotel provided a perfect setting for timeless family portraits in London.
I especially love the image of the little one by the commemorative plaque, it provides a visual memory that will spark stories for years to come about her first visit to London.
Baby Photography in Trafalgar Square
Next, we took a short stroll to Trafalgar Square, one of London’s most iconic landmarks. From a photography perspective, it’s a fun challenge – how do you fit Nelson’s Column (at 52 metres high!) into a baby photo?
With the help of a super wide-angle lens and a creative approach (and yes, lying down on the pavement in my trusty waterproof trousers), we captured the family, the column, and even the statue of King Charles III in a single frame. These unique compositions are what I love to bring to my baby and family photography sessions.
Relaxed Family Portraits in St James’s Park
After our landmark adventure, we headed into St James’s Park to let our little explorer enjoy some time on the grass. Babies love freedom during a photo shoot – it’s not just about posing, but also about capturing genuine moments of play and curiosity.
We found a lovely shady spot for candid photos, and while the little one napped, we used the serene setting for some beautiful maternity portraits.
Photographing Families at Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is always buzzing with tourists, but that’s part of its charm. Instead of avoiding the crowd, we embraced it as I suggested a higher vantage point on the Victoria Memorial steps, and I used a slower shutter speed to capture movement and atmosphere.
The result? A unique portrait with the Palace in the background, filled with energy.
Indoor Baby Portraits at Raffles Hotel
To wrap up our morning together, we returned to the family’s suite at Raffles Hotel for some cozy indoor shots. In-room baby photography offers a chance to capture relaxed, everyday moments – reading together, playing on the bed, and just enjoying time as a family.
The natural light in the room was gorgeous and made for soft, beautiful portraits. I always recommend including indoor shots when photographing young children as it’s comfortable for them and gives a nice contrast to outdoor photographs.
