Eight Months Old – A Delightful Age for Baby Photos

I was thrilled to book this recent baby photo shoot in Clapham, especially when I heard that the baby would be eight months old at the time of our portrait session which is my favourite age for photographing babies.

Sitting up, laughing, interacting with their parents and the world around them, eight months is a delightful age and this was the most delightful baby. Add in the adorable dog and it made for a wonderful family photo shoot.

Starting early to win the day

As regular readers will know I love an early start for a family photo shoot. Tiny ones tend to wake early and be at their best and brightest at the beginning of the morning.

Arriving at 8am I was thrilled to meet the most adorable little girl, full of happy smiles as she drank her milk and ate her breakfast. This works so well, I can have a coffee, and the little ones get used to me before the photo shoot really gets going, also there are often opportunities for wonderful pictures in this early morning routine, images that will bring back so many memories in the future.

Children and dogs – what a delight!

I’ve never been lucky enough to own a dog, but if I did, I’d like one like Alfie who was incredibly cute. Watching the two – baby and dog, play together was a delight. You could tell they both love each other dearly and there was so much laughter as they rolled around and played with their toys.

Photos on Clapham Common

Heading out early we got to Clapham Common before it was too busy although it’s always so fun to see the little kids football classes starting. I wish they had existed when I was small and it’s great to see so many people enjoying sports.

We worked around the edges of the football pitches finding some beautiful spots among the trees for some glorious photographs.

I love the expressions of utter joy of babies and their parents when they play together, the happiness of people looking at those they love more than anything in the world, it’s a real privilege to be invited to document this in beautiful photographs for the family to enjoy.

Swings and bubbles

No trip to the park is complete without a go on the swings and it’s so fun to see little ones enjoy the thrills and excitement they offer.

From the swings it was home for an outfit change and some bubbles in the garden. I love her wonderful expression of delight.

Lunchtime

I think, for Alfie, then lunchtime was clearly a highpoint of the day. As soon as the highchair was out, he was sitting quietly next to it, waiting for some tasty morsels to come his way.

This is always so fun when babies are weaning and there are dogs in the family.  The idea of lying down and having tasty treats fall from the sky must be wonderful.

Great expressions, great interactions, these are the elements which make wonderful photographs.

And then it was time for bed. Tired and happy all round after a wonderful morning it was time to sleep.
