Family Photography in Belgravia and Mayfair

Welcome to my blog. I’m Helen, a London based family photographer, and I’d be delighted to visit your family in Belgravia to take beautiful pictures for you and your family.  I’ve been in business since 2003 and, in that time, I’ve photographed thousands of families providing them with stunning pictures that tell their story.

My focus is on natural relaxed images using creative compositions and understanding of light to produce family photographs that will exceed your expectations. My approach to family photography in Belgravia will provide you with beautiful photographs from your everyday lives and we will have such fun along the way.  You spend a morning doing the things that you love to do, in the places that you love to go – Grosvenor Square in Mayfair or one of the amazing London Parks nearby – Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park or Holland Park, the choice is yours for your family photographs.

We enjoy your children’s favourite games and activities while taking your family photos in Belgravia and so that it’s just a fun day for you all rather than a photo shoot with lots of posing.  The results speak for themselves, and clients love the experience.

For me, the sign of a great children’s photographer is someone who is so unobtrusive that they capture the essence of your child without them even realising that they are being photographed. Helen is one such photographer – she always manages to produce great shots of my children.

When to schedule your family photo shoot in Belgravia and Mayfair

This is often a question I’m asked – when should we book our shoot? What time of year? Or what’s the best age for our children? To be honest, today is the best time to book a shoot. Otherwise suddenly the days, then the months, fly by and suddenly your children are off to university. Strike while the iron is hot and book something in today.

All times of year are great, they all have different benefits for family photography, and I’ve written a longer piece on the different seasons on my blog.  Right now, as spring is in the air then it’s a brilliant time, glorious light, new growth on the tress and the feeling of optimism that always arrives with the sunshine and warm days.

When it comes to ages of children then again, they are all good for photographs. From newborns to teenagers there’s always something wonderful to record, new hobbies or interests for your children as they get older and in those early days then the glorious snuggly joy of a very tiny baby. For children under one then you might find my blog about the best age to photograph your baby useful to give you an idea of what to expect at different milestones in their first year.

Back in April this year, I visited the district of Belgravia for this wonderful children’s and family portrait photo shoot. Belgravia is an area of London which nestles in the City of Westminster and borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and it’s perfect for family photo shoots with its wonderful architecture, beautiful garden squares and houses filled with light due to their fabulous big windows – as a London-based children’s photographer, it is definitely one of my favourite locations.

Today I was invited to photograph Emma, her husband Jean-Marc and their beautiful daughters Sabrina and Jemima, and what a fabulous time we had together.

We started our morning at their beautiful home, utilising the fabulous windows and meeting the family cat who was very interested in the camera – I do love it when family pets get involved with a photoshoot. We took a few pictures at home and then headed outside as the sun was making a rare outing.

I love packing for a trip to the park on a family photo shoot, as the packing list is hilarious. I usually ask, ‘have you got wipes, and a drink, and a snack that isn’t those organic carrot crisps that cover the children in luminous orange goo?’; from the parents, ‘have you got a ball and your shoes?’; and from the children, ‘I must take my cuddly dog and my fairy wings’. Brilliant!

So off we went to the lovely Grosvenor Square in Mayfair to capture some family and children’s portrait pictures. Arriving nice and early, we were the only people there so it was like having an enormous private garden to explore. We played in the playground which is always good fun, with its swings, climbing nets and the see-saw – and then the fairies wanted to explore.

There is something that appeals to me so much about the pictures of the girls with their beautiful dresses, fairy wings and wonderful light, digging in a puddle with a stick! The old games are definitely the best games and sticks, mud and water will never loose their charm.

We then headed into the bushes in the garden for a spot of hide and seek. The girls were great at exploring and soon found the adults.

After a couple of hours of running around, we headed back home for a snack and a few more games indoors, including the game that produced one of my favorite shots from this family photo shoot and the subject of my Just One preview post as the children hid from daddy/the monster under the desk. It’s such a universal image – which of us can’t remember giggling and hiding from our parents or siblings during brilliant games as children.

I hope you enjoy these pictures from our children’s and family portrait photography session in Belgravia in the City of Westminster and the borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London SW1X.

If you would like me to visit and capture pictures of your own family, please contact us – we would be delighted to hear from you.
