Children’s and Family Portrait Photographer in Islington, North London

Welcome to my blog. I’m Helen, a family photographer based in North London and I’d love to visit you in Islington to photograph your family.

My business is based around the idea of building long standing relationships with the people that I photograph. I aim to provide you with the very best family photography there is and an amazing customer experience. Over the years we work together to document your children’s lives so that they have a wonderful catalogue of beautiful visual memories to look back on in adulthood. I’ll take stunning portraits of your children, wonderful and creative family portraits and images that show your children interacting and having fun. It’s a privilege being invited into your home to document your family and I work hard to provide you with results that will exceed your expectations.

I’ve been working as a professional family photographer since 2003. In that time I’ve established myself as London’s leading family photographer and I am also a brand ambassador for Canon, the only family photographer for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. On the day it’s about having fun. I arrive nice and early to get everyone at their best and brightest and also to take advantage of empty parks and playgrounds. Then we spend the morning together. We do the things that your children like to do in the places they like to do them. We can stay in your home or head out to one of the local green places such as Clissold Park, Highgate Woods, Hampstead Heath or one of the smaller squares in central Islington. We can do a combination too with more than one location for our Islington family photo shoot. We have the whole morning together so there is plenty of time if your children love different places. The idea is to create images that will be filled with memories so that when you look back on them in years to come the children will remember the place where they learnt to ride a bike or climb a tree, they will remember how they jumped on the sofa or read books by the window. Your photos will reflect your lives and will be unique to you, beautiful, creative images that show the love in your family.

All my images are taken in stunning monochrome. I find that black and white pictures really stand the test of time and I feel strongly that these pictures we take now must look good when your children are adults. We avoid fads and fashions, instead create beautiful timeless images that will look great now, and in fifty years’ time. Isn’t it a lovely idea that your children will have these images hung on their walls as adults, that they will look at them and pick up the phone to their siblings, reminiscing about their childhood days? for me that’s what it’s all about.

I charge a session fee and then prints, albums and digital files are purchased at your viewing session. I’m not a cheap photographer but I do offer excellent value with museum quality prints and frames and stunning heirloom albums. Clients coming back regularly year on year is testament to the beautiful work we create together. Today I am posting a few pictures from Debbie’s fabulous children’s and family portrait photography session in Islington, London N1. As a North London-based children and family photographer, it was lovely to visit a family so close to my home in Crouch End and, as always, it was wonderful to revisit a family who I had first visited a few years ago. When all these elements combine, I’m like a kid in a candy shop.

After a blissful ten minute journey on the train, I arrived at Debbie’s house full of the joys of spring and ready for our children and family photo shoot. I was greeted by two incredibly excited little girls, full of smiles and laughter and I knew we were going to have a fabulous morning, and by golly we did.

We spent most of the morning outdoors in the garden playing – it’s such a perk of my job to spend so much time just playing. All the little things that are so much fun when you are children seem to be forgotten in young adulthood, only to be remembered when the next generation come along and those simple pleasures are revisited – games of chase, skipping and jumping, checking who likes butter by the accurate buttercup test (it might not pass a peer review in a medical journal, but oh so much more fun). All these things are such wonderful fun – I’ll wager nobody can keep a smile from their face when an earnest three year old does the buttercup test.

We took so many lovely children and family photographs out in the garden of Debbie’s Islington home and, before we finished for lunch, we thought we would capture some pictures indoors too. Debbie has such a beautiful home that is so full of light, it was a perfect backdrop for these family portraits, especially the wonderful big windows that look out over North London and provided magical light for our beautiful photographs.
