How does a family portrait photography session in Kensington work?
My sessions are based around you and what you enjoy doing as a family. I visit you at home and we spend a morning together. We have plenty of time, which makes the sessions very relaxed for you and your children, and we can do all their favourite things.
With babies and younger children we can work around their nap times to ensure that they are happy throughout the session and for older kids I’m always happy to take breaks for snacks as required.
If the weather is kind then heading outside can be great fun and Kensington’s array of fabulous parks all make brilliant locations for children and family portrait photographs. Holland Park, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and the beautiful garden squares such as Ladbroke Square Garden or Kensington Square Garden are fabulous if you are lucky enough to have a key.
Having photographed families across Kensington for over 20 years as a Canon Ambassador, I know every corner of these parks and exactly how to use the light at different times of day.
We can play your children’s favourite games and I can take lots of beautiful pictures as you have fun together – photos that capture your family and the relationships you all have. It’s so much fun to photograph children at play and the laughter as they chase their parents, kick a football with siblings, catch bubbles or climb a tree all make for fabulous photographs that you will treasure as the years pass.
I also love photographing indoors and I’ll often do part of the session inside, particularly with younger children. It’s lovely to take pictures in your home as these images will have so much resonance for the children as they grow. Images that capture everyday moments; reading with daddy in the chair by the window or creating a lego masterpiece with mummy on the playroom floor. Jumping on beds and baking biscuits, painting and dressing up – these everyday moments create such special photographs.
Helen has photographed our family on a number of occasions, and the experience has always been fantastic. Not only is the time that she spends with us very enjoyable, it is also a very relaxed experience as Helen manages to take phenomenal photos of you and your family in your everyday environment. Therefore, the photos always look very natural and relaxed. I still don’t know how Helen manages to capture such great photos with such ease and aplomb, but she does it every time and our friends always comment on how great they are. I would recommend Helen to anyone.
How much does it cost?
I charge a session fee, which is £550 during the week or £650 on weekends and bank holidays. This covers my time on the day, and the time spent preparing your images for your viewing session. At your viewing session, you can choose what you would like to order and I offer a wide variety of beautiful options. My unframed prints are £95 up to 12″ x 8″ in size and we have a minimum order of ten. Framed prints are from £395, my stunning albums start at £1,450 and a disk of digital files is included in all orders over £1,995. You can find a full price list here.

It provides a wide variety of options from wide open spaces, the shade of the beautiful chestnut trees, feeding the ducks by the lake and, of course, the amazing Princess Diana memorial playground. Kensington has a wonderful array of parks giving us plentiful options for family photography. The open spaces of Kensington Gardens, the landmarks of Hyde Park, the fantastic rose garden and wooded areas in Holland Park and, if you are lucky enough to be a keyholder, then the private garden squares such as Edwardes Square Garden and Ladbroke Square are all fantastic locations for family photography.
A combination of indoor and outdoor photography is the ideal combination for baby and children’s photography as it gives us such variety to our photographs. The stunning light and backgrounds make for stunning outdoor images while indoors we get a real sense of the children’s lives as they live them at this point in time – their bedrooms, their favourite toys, the little games they like to play each and every day. Doing both is perfect and it’s why my sessions last a morning, so we have plenty of time to get great images both at home and out at your favourite park.
