Black and White Family Photography in Kew
Fun family photo shoot in West London
My fifth session with this lovely family saw us at Kew Gardens in West London, spending a brilliant summer day together.
We’ve been working together since 2020 and our annual sessions are something I really look forward to. It’s great fun seeing families annually and I get to know the children and we have so many amazing adventures.
Photographing a family regularly builds such a lovely set of images for the children to look back on in the future. Beautiful, artistic images that they will be proud to hang on their walls as adults.
Each year we create a stunning album and add to the gallery on the wall so the pictures can be enjoyed every day and for many years into the future.
Choosing a location for a family photo shoot
Regular sessions mean we get to have such fun choosing locations for our family photo shoots. We’ve been to lots of the parks closer to home and so it seemed a great idea to go a bit further afield and make an adventure of our day together. It was worth getting out of bed really early to take advantage of the early members opening times and so we had the gardens to ourselves when we arrived at 8am.
Playground fun
I’m a big fan of photos in a playground. Kids love to test their skills at climbing and the resulting pictures tell us so much about what they enjoy. I loved seeing the eldest climb right to the top of the tallest tower and the little one fearlessly launching herself off the ropes and into her parent’s arms. These pictures are always full of such joy and I’m in awe of the children’s bravery as they test their limits with intrepid climbing skills.
Iconic landmarks in Kew Gardens
Kew is such a beautiful spot and iconic buildings such as the glasshouses made a beautiful backdrop for a fun portrait photo. Again, our early start meant we didn’t have to worry about other people in the pictures and I love how much fun the girls were having leaping in the air with the buildings in the background. These girls are so much fun and so energetic, I wish I could jump that high.
Portraits
As well as action shots, I love to take some portraits as the day progresses. These are often very relaxed in style and so lovely to have. Both the girls are so photogenic, and their smiles make me so happy to see. From an environmental portrait of the littlest sitting in a tree to a close-up headshot of the eldest, I am able to create so many varied images over the course of a morning.
The Badgers Set
One of my favourite bits of Kew Gardens, both for fun and for photos is the Badgers Set, a woodland balance trail that is tucked away in a corner off the beaten track. This is often a quiet corner and one that the kids absolutely love with its extended (and quite complicated at times) balance course.
Beautifully carved tree stumps shaped as snakes and dragons mark the way and the children had a brilliant time walking, running, and sometimes falling, as we went around. What I loved was seeing how keen the children were to try new things, to jump up if they fell, and to jump from area to area. We went around three times it was so much fun, and I enjoyed approaching the photography in different ways to really capture the feel of the day.
Fun family photo shoot in Kew
It was such a fun day from start to finish and we had a brilliant time together taking family photos in Kew. The girls were, as always, an absolute joy to photograph and it was such fun catching up with the family this summer.
If you like what you have seen here and would be interested in booking your own family photo shoot then do get in touch. September is fully booked but there are a few spaces left in October and November. I’d love to meet you and your family and create some wonderful memories together.
