Fun Natural Style Family Photography in Notting Hill
Since I started my photography business back in 2003 I’ve always done a lot of family photo shoots in Notting Hill. A lot of my earliest clients came from West London and it’s always a place I love to return to, it’s such a beautiful part of town and has so much incredible green space, perfect for family photography. I love the big parks and I also love the small garden squares, they are brilliant places to shoot, especially first thing in the morning when we often have them all to ourselves.
For my sixth shoot with Emma and her family in their stunning Notting Hill home we had a brilliant morning planned. Our sessions are always fantastic fun, lovely and relaxed and full of laughter. I always look forward to seeing what ideas for games and activities are in store.
I love to do as many of the children’s favourite things as possible over the course of a photo shoot – this gives the pictures a lovely documentary feel – capturing real moments and real emotions. A range of the children’s favorite games also means that when they look back on the pictures as they grow older they will have so many great memories of games they played and also, and importantly, where they played them. For this reason I love to take at least some of my pictures indoors as home is where the heart is and beautiful photographs from inside the family home are a lovely thing to have.
Playing indoors gave us a really relaxed start to our morning together, finding the light in different areas of the house. I love the shot of the girls having a pillow fight on the window seat, a perfect moment in perfect light – this is what my family photography is all about. We played in the playroom and in the girl’s bedrooms, a particular favourite photograph of mine is looking into Hannah’s room as she reads with her mummy, it’s a scene that I imagine is played out day in and day out. I thought Hannah was a literary genius until her parents told me she just learnt the books by heart and wasn’t reading at a level many years above her age! It was wonderful to witness a clear love of stories and I hope it is something she will carry with her through life; I love to read and think a love of stories is a wonderful thing.
After our mid-morning snack break we headed outdoors and had a brilliant time in one of Notting Hill’s most beautiful garden squares – as a location for family photography it really can’t be bettered with playground areas as well as lovely places to run around.
We had a fantastic morning and I’m so thrilled with these pictures, I’m already looking forward to next years session and looking forward to seeing what fun we will get up to then.
