Family Photography in Mile End

Family photo shoot in Mile End, East London

Welcome to my blog. Today I’ll be sharing a few favourite images from a recent session of family photography in Mile End in East London. I love to share a selection of images here on the blog, both as a preview for my clients and for those of you who are looking at my work for the first time, perhaps choosing a family photographer to take pictures of your own children. I hope that sharing a selection of images from individual sessions gives you a really good sense of my work and how the sessions go. Do enjoy the blog, it’s a pleasure for me to write, and I hope you will enjoy looking at all the different pictures and that you will choose me to photograph your family in the coming year ahead.

Group family photos in a Mile End garden Square

Starting nice and early we headed straight out into the garden square to get the best light and also to have the square to ourselves. We were rewarded with such a glorious morning.

We took some group shots using the same lovely setting where we’d taken a few family photos last year. A fallen tree makes such a good spot for this kind of picture as everyone can relax but it’s prettier than a bench. I love how we can see the changes year on year with regular photo shoots as the children grow up. Do take a look at last year’s blog post so you can see the changes too.

Playful family photography in Mile End

It’s so fun to play all the different games the children enjoy and we managed a wide-ranging selection while we enjoyed some time in the local garden square. While the game of choice for the eldest turned out to be something that needed a large group of people, we still managed to get a lot of laughs with the classics of hide and seek and what’s the time Mr Wolf.

We also had a great time with some of the props we had brought with us, bubbles, football, a cricket bat. All of these were so much fun and I love the little moments of interaction as the children concentrate on their games when playing with their parents and with each other. As always, the children find the ways to have the most fun, using activities in different ways. I wouldn’t have thought to try to catch bubbles on a cricket bat but it worked so well for pictures.

Garden exploration at home

Back home for a snack and then we headed out into the garden for a few pictures. We were met with a tangle of spider webs criss-crossing the garden. The boys were keen to find a way through without touching them themselves. So, bamboo sticks to the rescue, the family set out like explorers in the rainforest, pushing webs to the left and the right as the spiders scurried to find new homes in the leaves. I love moments like this, activities that are so unique to a family and that will bring back so many memories in years to come.

At-home family photography

Indoor pictures are always some of my favourites and, whatever the weather, I like to take some photographs indoors. It’s so lovely to record the little moments, a book on the sofa or winding the clock. Laughter and fun that really remind us how we fill our days with the people we love.

Bed jumping and time to play

There’s nothing children love more on a photo shoot than a forbidden activity and bed jumping is always a favourite. I remember so well being told that jumping on the bed was not allowed and yet, as soon as our parents were out of the way, my brother and I would be using it as a trampoline. They are great memories and while I wouldn’t suggest these well-behaved little ones would have a sneaky bounce when their parents weren’t looking, they certainly loved being told they could jump for the camera. Look at those joyful faces and I love the laughter as they roll around together. It’s a great contrast to the quiet moment on their first photo shoot as they snuggled together on the same bed. What a difference a year makes.

Music and quiet portraits

We finished this wonderful session with some pictures of the eldest with his instruments. In a household where music clearly has a really important place, from the musical books the children enjoy to trips to the proms, what a fabulous experience for a six year old. Both boys clearly really enjoy music. We had enjoyed some time on the piano earlier in the season and then just at the end it was time to be shown the eldest’s recorder and violin, amazing instruments to be playing so young.

I enjoyed using the light and framing of the stunning front window to create some striking portraits, a back lit silhouette and a beautiful formal portrait that pair so well together and will look amazing printed together in an album or on the wall.
