Summer Photo Shoot in Holland Park
Summer Fun in West London
I’ve had a few photo shoots recently that feel like they have bookended the pandemic. Newborn shoots early in 2019 and then family sessions this summer as things open up and we get used to the new normal we’re living in. Today I’m thrilled to share a sneak preview from one of these fantastic sessions.
West London has always been one of my most frequent stomping grounds for family photography and I always love jumping on the tube to Notthing Hill, Holland Park and Kensington. It’s a beautiful area with fantastic parks and delightful houses and I have so many lovely clients in the area. It was a beautiful day for our family photo shoot, one of the warmer mornings of this summer and we had a brilliant time exploring the local park and one of the lovely communal gardens of this beautiful area of West London.
Starting in Holland Park we had such fun; we climbed trees, spotted squirrels, looked at the peacocks, and played hide and seek. The wonderful light added an extra element to beautiful photographs that really captured the joy of my little subject as she played happily with her parents. I love this about photographing little ones, they are so delightfully joyful – you don’t need toys or props – a day in the park just running around and playing games is all we need for stunning family photos.
As always it’s such a difficult task to choose a favourite but I think one of the pictures that really sticks with me from this shoot is this lovely shot on the swing within a sea of bubbles. This shot was taken towards the end of our photo shoot when we had headed back from Holland Park to their stunning West London home. Opening onto a fabulous communal garden we wanted some extra pictures that captured that space, a place where the family play often and which will be full of memories as time goes on.
The light was very bright by this point in the day and so I decided to photograph the swing into the light to get this fabulous backlighting on the bubbles, really making them pop as the sun shines off them. Her little face as she reaches out to grab the bubbles while on the swing is an absolute picture of concentration and I feel this image will bring such joy now and in the future.
