Family Photography in Wimbledon: A Joyful Half-Term Photo Shoot
I was thrilled to return to Wimbledon for a family photography session with this wonderful family—our second shoot together! Our previous session back in October 2020 remains one of my all-time favourites. One memory that has really stayed with me is when one of the children gave me a tiny acorn. We planted it in a vase and now, it’s a growing oak tree in my garden- 30cm tall and thriving. Moments like that are what make my job so fantastic.
So, with excitement and my camera in hand, I travelled to Wimbledon during half-term for another relaxed and joyful family photo shoot.
Bubbles, Cartwheels, and Natural Moments
While we had planned to start on Wimbledon Common, children—as always—had their own agenda. Instead, we began in the green space outside the house, and I’m so glad we did. We captured fantastic cartwheels and the most mesmerising bubbles in the morning light.
By the time we headed out later, the rain had set in. But starting with spontaneous play turned out to be perfect. When photographing children, I’ve learned that going with the flow brings the best and most natural family portraits. It’s about embracing the moment.
Tree Climbing Adventures on Wimbledon Common
When we finally made it to Wimbledon Common, the kids went straight to tree climbing—fearlessly and joyfully. I always love the sense of adventure that comes from these candid outdoor moments. There’s a fantastic group shot of the whole family in a tree, relaxed and beaming, surrounded by nature. These are the kinds of family photos that feel alive.
We also captured some incredible balancing acts and shared laughter—these interactive moments make for truly special imagery.
Relaxed Family Playtime in Nature
Much of the session was spent exploring Wimbledon Common, taking relaxed, candid photographs. Everyone had such a lovely time together, and you can see that in every frame.
I always remind families: The more fun you have, the better the photos will be. And these pictures are a perfect example—natural, heartfelt, and joyful.
Recreating a Favourite Memory
Some photos stick with you. During our last session, there was a beautiful moment where the children shared a Yo-Yo fruit leather while perched on a branch. This time, we had to recreate it. These echoing moments are so special – showing how the children have grown, yet how much has remained the same.
What Happens When It Rains? Indoor Family Photos!
Back home, we embraced the rainy weather with some beautiful indoor photography. The children’s rooms were full of personality, and it wasn’t long before cuddly toys made their way into the shoot. A plush corgi stole the spotlight!
Indoor sessions have a very different feel, offering intimate, cosy portraits that perfectly complement outdoor images. Together, they tell a complete story.
We wrapped up the day with a few final pictures in the spare room. Even at the end of a long session, there’s often a spark of magic left—and we certainly found it. The last frame of the day is a firm favourite of mine: joyful, spontaneous, and full of energy.
