Winter Family Photo Shoot in Knightsbridge

I was thrilled when Patrick contacted me to book our fifth family photoshoot when they were visiting London in December. We had first met back in 2017 when I had the joy of photographing a newborn session for them, then we managed annual sessions, including an amazing trip to the UAE, before Covid disrupted our photo shoot schedule.

Fast forward a few years and we’re back together, taking pictures, catching up, and creating beautiful photographs to remind the family of this wonderful time in their lives.

We met at their hotel bright and early and then headed out to beautiful Hyde Park to make the most of the morning light and to beat the crowds which do appear quickly in London.

It was a cold morning, but bright and beautiful, and we headed straight to the playground to take advantage of the peace and quiet at 8.30am. We had a lovely time playing on the swings and in the giant tunnel slide which I enjoyed a go on too as the easiest way down with all my cameras.

We then spent a lovely time playing in the park, games of hide and seek, What’s the Time Mr Wolf and then building giant leaf piles and kicking them around. I love that these games are absolutely timeless, finding the fun of outdoors (everyone loves a stick!) and letting the family play together for stunning happy portraits and the kind of group images that will bring a smile to everyone’s faces for decades to come – these unposed image are priceless.

By mid-morning everyone was getting a little cold and hungry and so we headed back to the stunning Berkeley hotel for some indoor picture in their suite. It’s lovely to mix up indoor and outdoor pictures on all my photo shoots as they have such a different feel and it keeps things interesting for everyone. It’s also always really important to make sure everyone is well fed too as this keeps everyone in a fantastic mood and ready for all the fun of the photo shoot.

Dinosaurs, books, and a brilliant game of rough and tumble on the bed make for stunning image and really capture the memories of what activities are enjoyed at this point in time. Looking back over these pictures in future years will always raise a smile and it’s good for me to keep my dinosaur knowledge topped up and, as everyone knows, there’s nobody more knowledgeable than an enthusiastic seven year old.

After lunch we jumped in a taxi and headed out to pick up some tickets from the Royal Albert Hall for the concert the family had booked for the following day. It was a great excuse for a few extra pictures before the end of the session.

A few shots by the Albert Memorial and a last couple of portraits in the park was a perfect finish to a wonderful day, a brilliant winter family photo shoot in Knightsbridge.
