Photo Shoot with Teenagers in Regents Park
Regular family photo shoots as children grow up
This was my seventh photo shoot with this lovely family and I was thrilled to see them again after a gap since they moved abroad.
It’s always a real pleasure when families, who no longer live in the UK, make time in their schedules for a photo shoot when they are in London visiting family and friends. I was so pleased that a last-minute postponement by another client meant that our diaries aligned to enable me to fit them in at relatively short notice – a serendipitous moment indeed.
We decided on Regents park as the venue for our session as it’s such a beautiful location and it would give us options to get away from the crowds and create some stunning images for the family.
Finding quiet corners
Starting early meant that the park was relatively quiet, but we still wanted to get off the beaten track, both for clear photos and also as everyone feels less self-conscious if there aren’t other people around. We headed into the trees to find some little pockets of light and some quiet spots for portraits.
Headshots
I love to take headshot portraits of everyone when I’m photographing people, especially teenagers. It’s lovely to have a really nice portrait and these are the years when school photos have become a thing of the past. A beautiful portrait is something to treasure and to look back on in years to come. I have some stunning portrait images of my grandparents and great grandparents, simple, clear compositions, beautiful lighting and great expressions, these are images to treasure down the years.
Laughter and interaction
Often the best moments in a family photo shoot are the in between moments when a joke is shared, and the family laugh together, that’s when you see the amazing relationships that people have and get a sense of the fun they have together. I love these shots of father and son laughing especially as they remind me of a similar shot of the two of them laughing from X years ago which has always been a favourite image of mine.
Moments of togetherness
Pictures together can take so many different forms and over the course of a photo shot there will be different opportunities from more posed images to natural moments that just happen. Often, I’ll be photographing someone and then turn around and photograph the moment that is happening behind me. We need some guidance and interaction or there’s no focus but often when everyone is focusing in one direction that’s when the little moments occur elsewhere. It’s one of the joys of photo shoots keeping a sense of what’s happening everywhere, while also concentrating hard to ensure all the little details of what happens in front of me.
Images in nature
The amazing parks of London give us so many great options for photos and I love to use trees in lots of different ways in my shoots. I love a canopy of leaves as a backdrop and I love a branch to lean on. It’s great to have something to anchor an image and, for the subjects of the pictures, it’s easier to pose when there’s something to lean on or against. I love how trees give us so many options.
This was such a fun day and I’m thrilled with the results.
